On November 19, 1877, the Russian Warship Aleut was caught in blizzard and ran aground on the Setana coast. All 60 members of the crew were saved through the combined efforts of the townspeople. However when another Russian ship arrived to collect the castaways to take them back to Russia, the boat carrying the crew to the ship capsized and 12 lives were lost.
