The name means "standing elephant" because that is what the shape of the mountain brings to mind. There is an observation platform at the summit which offers a fine view of Okushiri Island and the mountains surrounding the area. At night, you can enjoy gazing at the mystical strings of lights from the squid fishing boats which line the horizon of the Japan Sea. Nearby is a Hydrangea Park which, in season, blooms into a carpet of light purple
