At a height of 1,520 meters, Mt. kariba is one of the highest peaks of southern Hokkaido and with much untouched wildernees it is very popular with mountain climbers. It's summit is a treasurehouse of alpine flora, and from the summit you have not only a great view of the Japan sea, but you can even see the pacific Ocean un the far distance. A five hour hiking course brings you from the mouth of the Sukki River to the Top of Mt. Kariba
